Hero Wars: Alliance Grand Arena guide: miss the 8 PM attack and you lose your reward
Skip one attack and the daily ranking reward is gone, however high you sit. Here's the routine, the rules that decide fights, what the Coins buy and how to build a Grand Arena team.

Miss your attack before 8:00 PM in-game time and Grand Arena pays you no daily ranking reward, however high you sit. It's the most expensive habit slip in Hero Wars: Alliance's 3x3 PvP mode, and the easiest to avoid.
No copy-paste line-ups here. The rules reward structure more than any single hero, so that's where we start. For hero ratings, the Hero Wars tier list was last updated on 26 October 2026 for the Wodryn update.
How to open the Grand Arena
The Grand Arena unlocks at team level 50. Press Arenas in the middle of the main screen, then press Open under the Grand Arena option.
The menu is busier than it looks. It shows your ranking (refreshed when you relaunch the menu), the Coins per hour you earn at that position, your server's leaderboard, the rules, a Journal tab with your battle history, a merchant linking to the Grand Arena Shop, your remaining battles, your defence teams with their overall power, and the To battle button.
The rules that decide fights
You get five free attempts a day, and the daily reset lands at 5:00 AM in-game time. Emeralds buy more, five extra attempts per purchase, and a higher VIP level raises how many purchases you can make each day.
Press To battle and the game offers three opponents. If none of them appeal, tap Refresh.
A match is three battles and you need to win two. Each battle lasts two minutes, and if both teams are still standing at the end, the defender takes it. That tie rule shapes everything. Attacking, you have to actually kill the other side. Defending, a team that survives and stalls is a winning team. I'd favour durability on defence.
Battles are fully automatic, so you can't control heroes. The server works out the result the moment you press To battle, which makes the replay a recording. Skip it: tap the pause button in the top-right corner, then choose Skip Battle for one fight or Skip All for all three.
Hidden squads and matchmaking
Climbing the ladder buys you cover. From rank 100 upwards, opponents can't see your third squad. Between 20th and 2nd place they can't see your second squad either, and at first place every squad is hidden.
Matchmaking uses two ranges: a visible one, which is the positions in your opponent list, and a wider hidden one. The hidden range lets you hit a target whose position shifted while you were picking heroes. If they've moved outside both ranges, you need to find someone else. It also explains how someone far from your position can attack you.
What Grand Arena pays
Coins per hour
Your position earns Grand Arena Coins every hour, from 1 to 70 depending on rank. They pile up until you collect them.
The 8:00 PM daily reward
At 8:00 PM in-game time you get a reward based on your rank at that moment. It arrives as a letter in your in-game mailbox. The game checks positions at exactly 8:00 PM, so a rank change a second later doesn't count, though delivery can take a few minutes.
The catch: you must attack at least once before 8:00 PM in your in-game time zone. Successful defences don't count. Tap your avatar in the upper-left corner to see which time zone the game is using for you.
Defence Coins
Each of your first five successful defences a day pays 10 Grand Arena Coins, so 50 at most. Later defences earn nothing, and the Coins come by in-game mail.
Coins also come from an Honorable Guardian Box, as a Hero's Way reward, from watching video ads from Boxy and from tasks in special events. The Hero Wars events calendar is the place to spot those event tasks.
Spending Coins in the Grand Arena Shop
The shop opens at team level 50. Tap Shop in the Grand Arena menu, or choose the Grand Arena Shop tab in any other shop.
It sells hero equipment, recipe fragments, Rune Stones and Soul Stones for Octavia, Lian, Markus, Ishmael, Rufus and Iris. New stock appears every 24 hours at 9:00 PM in-game time and you can refresh it with emeralds if you're impatient.
Octavia has her own page if you want to see whether she suits your roster.
Building a Grand Arena team
The best team for Grand Arena in Hero Wars: Alliance depends on your roster, and the mode's rules (automatic fights, ties to the defender, hidden squads) reward a sound structure over any one name. Start with the developer's own baseline: one tank, at least one support or healer, and a couple of warriors, mages or marksmen. The tank defends the team, the support or healer restores health and applies buffs, and the damage dealers do the killing.
Then run three checks before you commit a Grand Arena team:
- Pairings. Some heroes are designed to boost each other.
- Control effects. If the opponent can displace your characters, bring a hero who protects others from displacement.
- Resistances. Make sure the enemy isn't resistant to your characters' skills.
The team-gathering window helps. You can filter by the bonus stat on a hero's Artifact Weapon, by faction and by class, one option per parameter, and the filters can be combined. Pull your candidates from the Hero Wars heroes you actually own rather than chasing a name you don't.
Where to put your resources
Gear in Hero Wars isn't a free choice. Equipment follows a fixed six-item recipe for each colour rank, and artifact, glyph and skin stat types are fixed per hero. So the real decisions are investment priorities: artifact levels and stars, glyph levels, which skins to level, your Gift of the Elements level and which pet you assign as patron.
Each hero has three artifacts (Weapon, Book and Ring) and five glyph sockets. Concentrate on a few core heroes rather than spreading thin. With ties going to the defender, a well-invested tank and healer on defence is where I'd put resources first.
Test before you commit
Trainings lets you test teams of heroes and titans. Hero fights take place on the Arena field, and you can't trigger ultimates by hand, which suits Grand Arena anyway since its fights are automatic too.
Its Defence Teams tab lists every team added by you and your guildmates, which makes it a handy source of ideas. Fighting other players in the Arena or Grand Arena teaches you new combinations from what your opponents field.
The daily routine
- Attack at least once before 8:00 PM in-game time, even if it's one safe fight.
- Use Refresh when all three opponents look risky.
- Keep your defence squads sturdy: the first five successful defences each day pay 10 Coins apiece.
- Skip replays unless you're studying a loss.
- Test new combinations in Trainings before moving them onto your defence.
Which of your heroes holds your defence together right now? Work that out first, then build the rest around it.

Team level 50. Once you're there, press Arenas on the main screen and then Open under the Grand Arena option.
How many Grand Arena battles do you get per day?
Five free attempts, refreshed at 5:00 AM in-game time. Emeralds buy extra batches of five, and a higher VIP level lets you buy more batches daily.
Do you have to attack to get the Grand Arena daily reward?
Yes. You need at least one attack before 8:00 PM in your in-game time zone, and successful defences don't count towards it. The reward then arrives by mail.
What happens if a Grand Arena battle runs out of time?
If both teams are still alive when the two minutes end, the defending team wins that battle. You win the match by taking two of the three battles.

Guild chat is the first thing I open in the morning and the last thing I check at night. I play Hero Wars and Empires & Puzzles mostly for guild wars and alliance events, and I'm the one reminding everyone the free chest resets at midnight. If an event is worth your stamina I'll say so, and if it isn't I'll say it louder. Spotted a mistake? hello@gatchanews.com
