Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes Territory Wars: the Guild rules that can cost you your reward

Attack squads first, defence from whatever's left: that's the split I'd make before a single unit goes on the map. Here's the reasoning, plus the Guild rules that decide who gets paid.

You can play a flawless Territory War in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and still collect nothing, purely because you were in the wrong Guild at the wrong moment. Territory Wars match one Guild against another using player-versus-player squads and fleets (see all SWGOH events), and the membership rules decide who gets paid.

Eligibility: the part that costs people rewards

You need to be level 65 or higher, and your Guild needs at least 25 members (the cap is 50). Then you have to opt in during a 24-hour sign-up period. Miss it and you're watching from the sidelines.

The real trap comes after sign-up. To earn rewards you must still be in the Guild when the war ends. Join a Guild after a war has started and you're out of that one entirely. Leave and rejoin, even if you fought before you left, and you get nothing. Get removed, or walk, before rewards are distributed, and the result is the same. I'd treat any mid-war Guild switch as writing off that war.

How a Territory War runs

  1. Join and preview. Members choose to take part and rosters are locked in. Guilds are paired with an opponent based on how many members opted in and how strong their rosters are.
  2. Setup. You place your defences on the territory map. Any unit used in a defensive squad is unavailable in the attack phase.
  3. Attack. The Guild works together against the other side's defensive squads.
  4. Review. You check the results and work out what to change next time.

What you're playing for

Everyone who participates gets the same reward when the event ends. The size of that reward comes down to your Guild's Galactic Power and its final placement. A membership slip wipes it out.

Defence or attack: pick your attackers first

Because a unit on defence can't attack, every strong squad you park on the map is one you can't swing at the other Guild. That makes Territory Wars a budget. I won't hand you a single "best team" to copy, because the right split depends on your roster.

My default is simple. If you're free-to-play with a thin roster, choose your attack squads first and keep your best attackers off defence. Deep-roster spenders can afford to put real strength on the map, since they have enough left over to attack with.

Mods are the free-choice layer on each character, while gear and relics follow fixed per-unit recipes. So put your mod effort into the squads you'll actually play, and run them through the SWGOH mod optimiser. Check who's worth the investment on the SWGOH tier list.

When sign-up misbehaves

If the sign-up button won't cooperate, EA's official SWGOH game info hub has hotfixed a Territory War sign-up issue before, so check there before blaming your account.

A word to officers

Officers are promoted by the Guild Leader to help coordinate events, so if you're one, hold off on kicks until rewards land. It's a cheap rule that saves someone's payout.

FAQ

Is Territory War the same as Territory Battles?

No. Territory Battles are cooperative, with the whole Guild using its entire roster to earn rewards for everyone. Territory Wars pit your Guild against another one.

Can a Guild with fewer than 25 members run Territory Wars?

No. Territory Wars need a Guild of at least 25 members, and Guilds top out at 50.

Can I attack with units I've set on defence?

No. Anything placed in a defensive squad is locked out of the attack phase, so decide where each unit goes during setup.

I joined a new Guild partway through a war. Do I get anything?

No. If the war had already started when you joined, you can't take part or collect its rewards.

Value and spending writer

Every pack, pass and "limited offer" gets the same question from me: what does it actually cost per thing you'll use? I play Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and Marvel Strike Force as a careful spender, so I'll tell you when free-to-play is fine and when it really isn't. Marketing doesn't move me much. Maths does.
