Age of Magic Tournament guide: points come from defeated heroes, so a lost fight still scores

A lost fight still scores, and your own casualties never cost you points. Here's how to spend 25 fights, stack bonus heroes and ration Healing Kits.

Losing a fight in the weekly Age of Magic Tournament doesn't cost you ranking points, and that changes how you should play it. Points follow the heroes you defeat, so ambition beats caution almost every time.

Get on the list first

The Tournament launches every Friday for players at level 30 or above. The Help Center gives it 48 hours, while the current App Store listing says 24. Plan around the shorter figure and fight early.

The participant list is formed two hours before the start. Make an Arena attack at least two hours before the start, alongside being level 30, to meet the listed conditions. The rules page is unclear on whether level 30 alone is enough, and one attack is far cheaper than finding out the hard way.

Your defence is your Arena defence team, and it can't be changed once the Tournament is running. Fix weak spots before the list locks. The Age of Magic tier list is a quick sanity check on who deserves a slot.

Spend 25 fights on the right opponents

You get 25 fights per Tournament, and each opponent can be attacked only once. Every fight is a one-shot chance, so a soft target wastes a slot that a tougher one would have filled with more points.

Ranking points equal the power of the heroes you defeat, win or lose, and you never lose points when your own heroes fall. Since points track the power of the heroes you defeat, stronger squads are worth more. Go for them once your bonus heroes are banked.

Rewards exist for every position, but you need at least one Tournament Point to claim yours. Their size depends on the combined strength of the heroes belonging to the five strongest players.

Bonus heroes: rotate early

A hero that wins for the first time in the current Tournament becomes a bonus hero, worth an extra 10% on victory points. Bonuses from several bonus heroes sum, and a hero keeps the status after a defeat.

So open with variety. Field a spread from your heroes list in the early fights and bank first wins, rather than leaning on the same five all week. Sticking to one squad limits the bonuses you can collect.

Healing Kits: a budget, not a tap

Heroes can be healed or resurrected with Tournament Healing Kits or gold, no more than 30 times per Tournament. The first revival costs 20 Kits, and the price climbs by 20 each time a given hero is healed or resurrected. Keep reviving your favourite and the bill snowballs.

Spread the revivals across heroes, and keep them for those carrying bonus status or doing the heavy lifting. Healers are the support and center of most teams, and since higher initiative means acting earlier, a quick healer gets its turn sooner.

Kits are free from the Gladiator daily quest, and unused ones wait for the next Tournament. Do the quest daily.

Don't lose a fight to a glitch

Every Arena or Tournament battle has a five-minute server-side limit. Run past it and the result isn't saved and counts as a loss. If an error interrupts a battle and you restart in time, the attack isn't charged and the same opponent stays available. A failure while a Tournament fight is starting works the same way, provided the Tournament is still on.

Stages: claim before they vanish

The Stages tab holds accumulative tasks, with progress updated each Tournament. Rewards for passed Stages disappear when the Tournament ends unless collected, so claim them before it closes. The events page shows what else is running.

My default: bank bonus heroes in your first handful of fights, then go after the biggest squads you can find.

FAQ

Can you attack the same opponent twice in the Age of Magic Tournament?

No, every opponent can be attacked just once, and your total allowance is 25 fights.

Does a lost Tournament fight cost ranking points?

No. Defeated enemy heroes still score even if you lose, and your own fallen heroes never subtract anything.

What happens to leftover Tournament Healing Kits?

They're kept for the next Tournament. The Gladiator daily quest is the free source of them.

I was painting Space Marines long before I ever pulled one, so Tacticus was always going to get me. Age of Magic scratches the same itch: a grid, a turn order and a decision about who moves first. I judge units by what they do to a fight, not by what their stat line promises. Spotted a mistake? hello@gatchanews.com
